| 1369989 | 2014-03-11 20:28:00 | My sister currently has my old S3, using hangouts for SMS, and it seems the other night the phone updated to 4.3 (finally). This is a Telecom purchased phone - not rooted or anything. Since the upgrade, hangouts will only show numbers of people, not contact names. The contacts are still there, and the normal messaging app, awful as it is, works fine. It looks like hangouts is part of 4.3, so it can't be totally uninstalled and reinstalled (which I hoped would resolve the issue). She's tried uninstalling all the hangouts updates, and re-updating, also going into app settings and clearing hangout's data, but no joy. Has anyone else come across this or has any suggestions for a fix? I did a quick bit of looking around, and it looks like the 4.3 update for the S3 is a little buggy. Thanks! |

No Idea how to use it though and I have no issue with the normal messaging app - doesn't seem awful to me. I've had 4.3 for a while, several weeks. Mine is a parrallel imported S3 with a firmware ID that googles as being a french release and I've encountered no bugs personally. I'd suggest backing up contacts and settings and doing a factory reset on the phone, sometimes after a firmware update android devices do strange things until you do this and usually it sorts it out. You will have to reinstall the apps afterwards though (mine auto install as it's set to back them up to google). Coincidentally just now my phone somehow got into "Safe Mode" - no Idea how or what that means, restarted it and it's back to normal. Maybe i spoke too soon regarding the bugs. |

| 1369993 | 2014-03-11 23:34:00 | If you start searching for "Hangouts show" it auto completes, it's apparently relatively common. Things like this may work for you, it didn't for me: productforums.google.com |
