1369255 2014-03-03 07:30:00 Looking at getting an SSD for my desktop PC (as pretty much everything else is fast :p). Having not had much experience with SSDs, can anyone recommend some good ones? Looking for 250GB if possible, but 128GB may be doable. (Keeping my 2TB HDD for storage) pcuser42 (130)
1369256 2014-03-03 07:43:00 Personally from what ive seen, considering how high the read/write speeds are there is very little comparative difference between the majority of consumer models and thus id recommend the cheaper the better, although getting one with the latest technology such as the controller is advisable as there have been pretty steady and large improvements between generations of controllers. 1369258 2014-03-03 08:58:00 Samsung, Intel, Crucial - all review well and have a good reputation and 3 year warranties except intel which has 5 of some of them. Kingston have some very good prices and should be good also.
Here's I few I'd consider;

The performance improvement from a mechanical hdd is huge but the differences between each of these would be very hard to tell in real world usage.
I note the link from overseas seems a lot cheaper if you want to take that chance.

1369259 2014-03-03 11:01:00 Yeah the OCZ ones were cool, but high failure rates. I know, I had two fail on me, so they lived up to their reputation.

As the others said, the varying performance between SSD's is relatively minimal, but the gains vs a traditional HDD are _huge_! So any of the aforementioned brands by Dugimodo should do you right :)

1369260 2014-03-03 22:35:00 I also do like sandisk for anything involving flash memory as they manufacture it themselves so you gotta imagine they'd save the best for themselves. Slankydudl (16687)
1369261 2014-03-03 22:56:00 I'm very happy with Intel, although currently I'm running a sandisk and that's been great too. I would not buy OCZ at all, especially as they are basically non-existent now. wratterus (105)
1369262 2014-03-03 23:13:00 Well OCZ went bankrupt due to their shitty buisness plan... worked while they were practically the only ones selling consumer SSD's but it required that they continually grow something like 10% each year and it was bound to fail eventually. Slankydudl (16687)
1369263 2014-03-03 23:37:00 Didn't Toshiba buy them out? icow (15313)
1369264 2014-03-03 23:49:00 Buy whatever one you like, just make sure you have a good backup strategy as well Agent_24 (57)
