| 270780 | 2004-09-09 11:56:00 | I have just aquired a 20gb hard drive. I intend to install it to run along side my 40gb drive. I will patition the 20gb drive and put the o/s in one parttition and programs in the other. In the 40gb drive I will have my data. HOWEVER! I don't have a copy of windows. I have a recovery disc. How can I put an operating system in the 20gb drive? What about removing all the programs that are loaded in now and the making a ghost image and using that to put in my 20gb drive? Any suggestions? I have a P4 2.4Gh running XP with SP2 |

If a recovery disk returns computer to its original setup when it left the factory, wouldn't a copy of the OS be on it. I thought you could repair the OS etc through using it? Everytime I think I've got the hang of something to do with computers, up pops a post which sends me back to square one. :-( I can't help you, but sure am interested in the replies you get. Marg. |

| 270782 | 2004-09-09 12:25:00 | Chances are the recovery disk will just have a front end or setup files and the actual OS installation files will be on a hidden partition. This snippet (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) from another thread might help and a tootle around Here (snakefoot.fateback.com) wouldn't go amiss either. Cheers Murray P |
