2004-09-09 06:10:00 | I have this file on my bootable floppy disk, but I can't seem to open it when I boot-up from the floppy. I couldn't find the answer on www.bootdisk.com. And I have a file called OAKCDROM.SYS, what do I use that for???

2004-09-09 06:18:00 | oakcdrom.sys is a system file to allow access to your CDROM drive whilst in DOS. mscdex.exe is a bunch of MicroSoft CD EXtensions used in association with the .sys file to access the CDROM under DOS. Useless trivia: Each cdrom manufacturer used to have there own .sys file; but oakcdrom.sys is generally acknowledged to be the smallest and most compatible cdrom system file there is, hence it's inclusion on almost all dos boot disks.

2004-09-09 06:39:00 | It would probably be something like this. In your config.sys file: DEVICE=a:\oakcdrom.sys /D:cdname In your autoexec.bat file: a:\mscdex /D:cdname /L:z Note that the /D switches in both lines have the same parameters. This is a must. Don't go over 8 characters either. The /L switch specifies the drive letter to be assigned.

2004-09-09 07:14:00 | How can I make SMARTDRV, DOSKEY, and the RAM disk intall every time the computer is booted? | Scattershot06 (4844) | |
2004-09-09 07:26:00 | The AUTOEXEC.BAT needs to look like this: loadhigh doskey loadhigh smartdrv loadhigh mscdex /d:(whatever you put for the name for the OAKCDROM.SYS) Can't remember the options for the ramdisk and I can't check as I'm not in Windows atm, but it should go something like: ramdisk /D:(size) Hope this helps ya out.
