270506 2004-09-09 00:57:00 Why oh why can't this be easy,

Have recently returned from a sojurn overseas, dail up access for 3 months had me itching to get back home to my dsl connection.

First two days home it worked great, but since Monday it has slowed to a trickle.

I have tried a few download test pages which it has handled fine, and the jetstream games site loads at lightening speed.

But as soon as I try and get back into the 'real world' it slows to a crawl again, nzherald, xtramsn slow as!!!

I just installed the winXP sp2 over the weekend could this be part of the problem.

How can Telecom successfully establish such an expensive product with such inconsistent delivery and service, I guess suckers like me keep em laughing...

Buyer beware indeed

270507 2004-09-09 01:14:00 WELL that maybe your experience but I can get around any pages i like with equal speed i'm on the 256k plan........i've noticed it does occcasionally drop me but it's quick to log on again and gets around the web with no trouble at all.....fast enuf for me by far...........why not try installing firefox for an alternative so that you can ascertain if the problem perhaps lies within IE ? drcspy (146)
270508 2004-09-09 01:32:00 Xtra( My ISP) Jetsurf has been nice to me for the last few days :)

270509 2004-09-09 03:24:00 I suspect it will be your browser/settings. If you're using IE try install something else such as Mozilla or Netscape.

Try a ping from a command prompt to one of the sites you feel is loading too slow, and report back

270510 2004-09-09 13:03:00 Howdy,

Xtra is my ISP. Tried pinging the following

pressf1 site last attempt of 4 timed out
worldrowing.com all of which timed out.
msn.com all of which timed out
nzherald.co.nz all went through about 45ms

I live in Cambridge (Lemington) I think I'm about 2km from the exchange on the home1000 top speed plan.

270511 2004-09-09 13:04:00 Oh and I'm now browsing using firefox and opera, they seem to work a little better but I'm not sure if I'm kidding myself nzotago (2257)
270512 2004-09-09 17:53:00 well Im in leamington too and my jetstream working fine as..... drcspy (146)
270513 2004-09-30 22:43:00 I feel a wee guilty about my moaning now as I have discovered the reason for why my jetstream became cessna stream

VIRUS, I hadn't updated my virus software for an age and when I did it found a few and once cleared, the speeds where up and kicking at full pace.

Apologises Telecom for slagging you off
