270479 2004-09-08 23:21:00 hey guys,

I want to configure my mandrake 10 install so that whenever I login it mounts /dev/hda7. However I cannot find a drake panel graphical configurererer so how do I get to the startup script, and can I just chuck bash commands in there?

Cheers

270480 2004-09-08 23:56:00 Why not just add the line to your /etc/fstab
The fstab is the File-System Tab - Meaning it keeps track of what mounts go where.

Add:
/dev/hda7 /mnt/hda7 auto umask=000,users 0 0

Keep note of the spaces etc and you should be fine :-)
Then just issue the command:
mount /mnt/hda7
Even as a user, and you're away!

270481 2004-09-09 00:18:00 But i want it to mount it automatically when I log in..... willie_M (5608)
270482 2004-09-09 01:03:00 Okay, where it says:
umask=000,users
in your /etc/fstab, change it so it also has:
umask=000,users,noauto

This wont do it automatically on boot now.
You should be able to add the mount to ~/.bashrc and it should mount it.

270483 2004-09-09 04:13:00 OK didn't quite understand that but it seems to be automounting now anyway so I'll stop playing. :D

Also, whats the network neighborhood equivalent on mandrake? How can I 'browse' the networked devices/machines?
willie_M (5608)
270484 2004-09-09 04:17:00 One of them is called LinNeighborhood

Found in Network -> Remote Access -> LinNeighborhood

270485 2004-09-09 05:04:00 ahh cheers, will investigate :D willie_M (5608)
270486 2004-09-09 05:06:00 If you edited the fstab as I said, then it'll automount on boot (If that's what you want).

Otherwise for only when you login, it _should_ be ~/.bashrc (Why would you want it only when you login??)

For Samba browsing, try opening konqueror and typing:
smb://
This should list all Workgroups on the LAN. If you know the hostname, try:
smb://desktop1/sharename/

Otherwise, smb4k is good too :-)
