271116 2004-09-10 23:25:00 Whilst on-line a day or two back the panel as per below, appeared on my screen.
sal.neoburn.net

Since it contained at least one spelling error and one grammatical error, and it didn't mention Microsoft, I smelled a rat and ignored it. Has anybody else come across it? Is there any truth in what it says?

I have since run PC-Cillin, Spybot and Ad-Aware and feel more comfortable.

What do the rest of you think?

Multiple or single errors, is it OK as long as it mentions Microsoft ? (Plenty of precedents I suppose.)

271121 2004-09-11 02:02:00 For your info look at this (netrn.net) re new rogue spyware remover.

If you put www.XpVirusCleaner in your address bar it redirects to another site where, puportedly, you can get a free online scan. But, if you look at the url for the scan link it is actuall a download for a setup .exe as per the free download for the software. Very sus I thought, a quick search came up with the above results.

BTW, if you do not have a weel setup, firewall, AV and malware detectors such as Spybot and Adaware don't even consider looking at the questional site in question.

271122 2004-09-11 03:06:00 Thanks everyone for all the info, actions and connected items of interest. Should keep me occupied for a wee while.

This forum is simply great. One always ends up better informed; and in this case with greater peace of mind - which is something we all want!

271123 2004-09-11 05:01:00 lol, guess I must be bored cause I just installed and run the spyware remover. Did an entire scan of 60GB in about 20 seconds then told me it had found parasites in a pop up box but must register to remove them, funny thing was it was not displaying any spyware found in the tally list. oh well back to my ad aware (version1.03) to see what that left behind dipstick01 (445)
