Echo that echo.

In your considered opinion Terry, would this point to an intermittent hardware issue above other possibilities :D, corrupt firmware or a zapped MP/TP perhaps ;)

271000 2004-09-13 10:49:00 Hello Murray/Terry. Let me add to the murkiness.
My 98SE worked fine for several hours, and then suddenly tonight would not access the Internet. I had just composed an Email, and could not send it. Browser similar.
As an experiment, went back to TCP/IP settings and reset them to auto etc. Rebooted. no improvement.
Re-entered the numbers. All going again.
Bright ideas welcomed from anyone.
Cheers Tony

271001 2004-09-13 10:56:00 Go to Control Panel > System > Dvice Manager and uninstall your Network Adapter, reboot and reinstall adapter drivers and TCP/IP and re-enter your setting, IP addy, etc . I might add, that it would probably be best to pull the card and reseat .

Next step would be to throw in another card to see haow that gets on .

I still reakon it's a MP/TP fualt, but as Terry doesn't adhere to that particular theory I'll leave that aside ]:)

The modem itself does not have an ip address. You would ping the ip address of your network adaptor eg 202.57.211.41 or the paradise gateway which is made up of the first 3 octets of your ip address with the last as 1. eg 202.57.211.1
Pinging your ip address and the gateway address will help to narrow down where the fault is.

271004 2004-09-14 04:49:00 Hello DavesDad. At switchon this morning, no fast pipe. Reverted to dialup and cleared mail.
Reset IE/OE to Lan, and everything has worked all day. Still no closer to deciding where problem lies. A friend coming round in a day or so to try his skills.. And in the next chapter....
Cheers Tony
