| 270835 | 2004-09-09 23:50:00 | Does anyone have any experience with the IBM T series? I am contemplating purchasing a couple for my business and would value some input. I am aware IBM machines are a little bit more expensive than some of the other brands, however price is not a major concern. I am interested in reliability and speed of warranty service should the you know what hit the fan. ;-) Has anyone used IBM's Express Warranty service? TIA |

The T series use mobile processors so that's a start but they are quite expensive for what they are - the good value model at the moment is the T42 with the Pentium M 1.7GHz processor, 14" screen, 512Mb of RAM, 40Gb, XP Pro. Can't vouch for warranty service sorry. |

Battery life will need to be good, a business machine that only runs for a couple of hours on battery is no good to me. So desktop processors are out. I am focussing on the T series as it appears to be IBM's best quality model (from reviews I've read) and has a good performance to weight ratio. We will be using them all over the country and also traveling overseas. I need downtime to be at an absolute minimum if something craps out hence the reason I'm looking into the warranty service. | Sb0h (3744) | ||
| 270838 | 2004-09-10 00:42:00 | I bought X series in the USA. It came with 3yr warranty parts and labour. I had it serviced here. Service was prompt, next day courier free pickup and free courier return to you. Sometimes parts would be sent to you if its user installable. You would need to send the old one back to them or theymay bill you. The T series is the best one for business in my opinion. You can take the optical drive out fo lossen weight or add a 2nd HDD for that special meeting or just leave the optical drive inside. The T is smaller than the other series with a compromise sized screen but not as small screen or lightweigh as the X series (which does not have any drive bays unless u get them optional via USB or the base unit). |

| 270840 | 2004-09-10 00:50:00 | Thanks nomad that's what I was looking for. I've read plenty of reviews and looked around the thinkpad forum. But rather than taking the word of the primarily US based users on service I wanted some advice on service in NZ. I don't mind a couple of days downtime, but a week or more is unacceptable. Sounds like the IBM service is the way to go. The swap bay is surely going to come in useful especially for those times we need extra battery life, just swap the DVD drive out and chuck in a slim battery. :-) |

| 270841 | 2004-09-10 01:54:00 | I have just received my G40 laptop from having the system board replaced for the second time under warranty. It was the video chip packing up. It took about 10 days both times (part was not in stock in Auckland). Nice machine but I could have done without the disruption for 20 days in one year. Not sure what this Express Warranty is?? | Dolby Digital (160) | ||
| 270842 | 2004-09-10 02:28:00 | Well that doesn't sound like very express service. I'd expect them to have parts in stock no matter what packed up. Maybe I'm being unreasonable but I think if they offer a next day business warranty then next day it should be, no excuses. Maybe I should talk to one of their sales reps and make sure I get the service contract I need. | Sb0h (3744) | ||
