There are two ways to make a boot-able CDROM:

(1) Go here ( . karenware . com/powertools/ptautorun . asp" target="_blank">www . karenware . com) and get Karen's Autorun . inf Editor .

(2a) Many computer magazines have Auto-run CDROM with them, open up the file "autorun . inf" on the root
directory . Normally you may see three lines of text

[autorun]
open=booter . exe
icon=favicon . ico

Copy "autorun . inf" , "booter . exe", on to the CDROM you are making . The EXE file on the OPEN= line may not be called BOOTER, what ever it is called copy that file over .

(2b) Make a 16*16 pixel picture for a icon . I used MS Paint program that came with Windows 95, 98 . Then you need to save your picture in a ICON format as "favicon . ico"
I used a program like "Irfanview" that you can down-load free from here (http://www . irfanview . com) .

(2c) Now get the opening page for your CDROM and make sure it is "index . html" whatever it is called there should be a file on your magazine CDROM with the same file name . if it is called "Index . html" rename your file with capital "I" (just to save any worry)

(2d) Hopefully now your CDROM should auto-boot with the four files you have . Below is the four files I got my Auto-run CDROM to work .

autorun . inf 1 KB
booter . exe 29 KB (may have a different name)
default . htm 10 KB (size will vary)
favicon . ico 1 KB

If your CDROM does not work, look for another HTML file name on the magazine CDROM and rename your HTML file to the same name, then try it again .

Some more notes

To open a file on your hard drive e . g . your index page in a directory web-site on C drive:
My web site . (file:///c:/web-site/index . html)
But the above line will not work if you transfer your CDROM to another computer if does not have that directory or the same file name .

To open or auto-run a text file (readme . txt) you might like to include, notepad, wordpad, metapad, whateverpad, on the CDROM you might like to go in:

[autorun]
open=metapad . exe readme . txt

With a space between the program name and file name .

While this works well from a batch file, I have not tested it on a CDROM .
I have made an Auto-run CDROM using the method before my original posting and it works well, including on my computer and a couple of other computers I have tried it on .

Batch file

A batch file to run index . htm is as below:

ie
autorun . inf
[autorun]
open=run . bat

run . bat
@echo off
index . htm
