271295 2004-09-11 13:08:00 Hi,
When I pressed "Post Message" after writing a reply to a Post, it took ages, and then when I was about to press the "stop" icon to give up I noticed the site it was trying to connect to was: acvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net

What is this?
After pressing "Stop" and posting the message again, there was no problem and that address did not show up in the taskbar.

Googling didn't explain exactly what it was and didn't show up in Search.

Marg.

271296 2004-09-11 13:33:00 Seems to be another forum - deals with rural questions & answers.
Maybe tonight's Mod is looking at buying a beef herd?

271297 2004-09-11 13:53:00 Thanks Laura

But I would like to know why I was directed to that site.
Has something or someone linked into my computer? :O

Have run AVG, Spybot, AdAware etc and everything seems ok.

You know those ad's that press F1 have on the top & left hand side, I think it is something to do with them ;)

& I think there have been a few other posts asking what they are as well.

Also have a look here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) at a way to block them

Hope this helps :)

271300 2004-09-12 03:20:00 Hi Marg

If you are finding that acvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net is causing your pages not to load fully, you can add this to the built-in ad-blocker in Firefox which I believe you use. If you take a look down the far right bottom corner of Firefox, you will see the writing "Adblock". If you click on this it will open up dialog box with all the blockable items for that page. Scroll down until you see the entry for aacvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net, highlight it and then click Add. There will be two entries so add them both. This will stop that url loading and slowing down your browsing. It must be a issue at the aacvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net servers which is causing it to take ages to load and is why you are noticing this. Hopefully they will get their end sorted soon.

271301 2004-09-12 03:47:00 Hi Stu120404
Thanks for replying. Have seen the threads re: changing hosts file but can't get to the text file that you add the mediaonenetwork.net.

Being on this forum is so slow now.
Regards Marg.

There isn't any "Adblock" at the far right bottom corner of my Firefox 0.9.3

Maybe my Noia Theme I installed doesn't include it.
OR
Do I install an extension or plug-in to get Adblock.

In Options, I have put mediaonenetwork.net in the exceptions window as blocked, but that didn't make any difference.

Oh for a world where you can get away from those who snoop into your life.
The forum has been a great learning curve about computers and all, but am really considering whether the net is worth all the hassle anymore.

Regards Marg.

271303 2004-09-12 04:00:00 Marg:
Stu's link now showing mediaone site "under construction," so work obviously going on there at present.
With luck, the problem will be solved once that's finished.

Hmm .. well I am running the Linux version of Firefox 0.9.3 and just guessed that the Windows version would be similar :p

I also use that same Noia theme. Go to the extension website and install Adblock and then use the instructions as before. It will make a big difference. :)
