271258 2004-09-11 09:35:00 My system gets bogged down, and i think it is time for a format. Unfortunately, I have a 1gb cap, so there are problems if I want to go and download the whole windows update stuff again for XP.

Can you get one of those free Microsoft CD's that have all recent updates untill now?

I am not touching SP2.

I was wondering if anyone out there with a good connection would be kind enough to stick all the windows updates for XP on a cd, and sell them for $5 each or something to cover the expenses.

I would appreciate it a lot, and I'm there would be a few other buyers as well?

Good idea?

What a about a reinstall of XP? Instead of a reformat, that should do the job :)

Think you have missed something there Stu .
A reinstall would require the updates just the same as a reformat .

There is the Feb 2003 CD from MS that was up-to-date at that time . If you are paranoid at applying service packs then you should have been downloading the updates from Windows Catalog and archiving them, instead of just applying them . Bit late now I guess .

I have now done PC #4 here with SP2, and all are just fine . Many colleagues also have done theirs (with copies of SP2 from me) and no disaster stories .

I stopped using auto updates because there were small updates that windows would install without authorization and I ended up with NO Archive.

Is it possible to force windows to download, and store, a copy of every single update, or patch applied (or some way of doing/creating same result).

Personally I am moving slowly to full Linux network/servers/all.

I will keep 1 unit (for longhorn) for compatibility issues, insurance, and experience.

I am sure others have concerns in the aforementioned.

271262 2004-09-11 13:28:00 You could at one time click "change the update beahovior" i think it was ,or something like it,and then be presented with all the available updates from which you could pick and choose, then save to your harddrive.

As far as i can tell though all updates have been removed and replaced by sp2,i tried to just get mm2 from the updates site the other night for a comp, and all it would do was enable updates and start downloading Sp2.....
