2004-09-12 00:29:00 | Need some help, please. Recently purchased a Chicony USB PC Web camera. Have spent all the weekend so far trying, unsuccessfully, to get it working, and the place I bought it closed 'till Monday. My PC recognises the hardware, and the camera light is on. The software is Presto VideoWorks, which opens up OK, but as soon as I try to capture an image, it locks up. The software Readme file is dated Nov 2000. I suspected the hardware driver may also be old and not be XP suitable but checking the 'Net for an upgrade gave me the same driver date. Have done a search on PCWorld for similar, and a site recommended is now unatainable. Am running WinXP on a Dell 4600. Am running out of options. Current one is to put the lot in the rubbish bin. All help much appreciated. KB.

2004-09-12 00:46:00 | If its a dc-350 (came out before xp with win 2000 drivers only) or any other chicony Try this link (lots of other chicony drivers) www.helpdrivers.com Any other late model chicony should have no problems with xp. Is the twain driver installed properly Have you tried capturing an image with some other application like irfan view , win movie maker (shudder) or amcap ?

2004-09-12 00:50:00 | Sounds like a frustrating situation. Did the Presto software come with the camera? Maybe try some alternative software - try a search on CNET.com for pc webcam software. Try a google search to see if others have had similar problems with same hardware. Other that that I'm not much help I'm afraid.

2004-09-12 00:57:00 | Right, It seems that "presto video works" also has a problem with xp and chicony cams if its version 4.10.6 and you're not the only one to have the problem. Ditch the presto and download something idiot proof like amcap and (after you have found an xp driver) try that

2004-09-12 01:07:00 | To Johnboy, Balmypom (I'm one of those too!) and Highlander - will follow up on your advice. Thanks, guys. KB. | kbcad (1025) | |
2004-09-12 02:08:00 | To Barmypom - yes the software was with camera. To johnboy - the camera model is DC350, not supported on the site you mentioned. To Highlander - downloaded amcap and managed to lock it up too! Wondering whether my system (or I am) is the problem. I'm running Nortons AV 2003 and Zone Alarm Pro. KB.
