2004-09-13 08:00:00 | After login I get the following message: "could not start Kdeinit . Check your installation" . I click OK and am then taken back to login, after which the same message appears . I can log in as root . I have reinstalled, but it has made no difference . I could do a fresh install, but prefer to fix whatever is wrong . Help would be appreciated

2004-09-13 08:11:00 | Hi Antonia Did KDE work normally for you before? When you did a reinstall, did you select all the KDE desktop packages manually? Fedora's default desktop is Gnome, and you have to specifically select KDE to inlcude this desktop environment and for its dependencies to also be loaded. When you log in as root, it uses Gnome and not KDE? Have you done any updates prior to this happening?

2004-09-13 10:19:00 | Thank you both, you solved my problem. I must have changed the default desktop to KDE without realising it. (Probably while I was working trough the helpfiles and trying things out). I do not have KDE installed and have never used it. So that was causing the problem at log in. I have made Gnome the default again and all is well. Thanks again, Antonia

You have had Fedora Core 1 installed for a wee while now - you still enjoying it? :) |

2004-09-14 03:41:00 | Yes I am . I will definitely stick with Linux although I use Win XP as well, because it is there, but I could cope with Linux on its own if I had to . I would probably learn to use it more efficiently in a shorter time . I have already looked at the KDE environment in the add/remove programs . Will add it from the CD and experiment with it . I have just bought a 56K external modem through Trade me . I had to rely on a 33 . 6K external modem as Linux does not recognise the Conexant internal modem we have on our system, so that will make internet use more attractive still on Fedora . I like Firefox in Fedroa, because of the usefulness of the wheel for opening links in tabs . I haven't managed to get that to work in WinXP . Always good to know PressF1 is there to help us when in need . Bye for now Jenc, regards, Antonia
