271892 2004-09-13 06:43:00 Hallo
Could somebody tell me what a AMD Athlon2800 CPU temperture should be running at on a Gigabyte GA 7n400 pro2 m/board or where I could find this info.
Thanks

271893 2004-09-13 07:02:00 AMD's web site has recommended running and max temperatures. Start worrying at about 65-70c and if you have stability problems, eg: freezes, crashes and reboots especially when running the PC hard such as in games, video processing, etc.

It should normally run at about high 30's to 50's c but there will be marked variations with that and it also depends on how good your sensors and monitoring software is which, is not noted for it's accuracy.

271894 2004-09-13 07:21:00 Dont worry about CPU temps, the methods used for measuring temps are notoriously inaccurate, they're mearly a ball park figure. Temps can have a variance of up to 10 degrees just based on the motherboard used. Thats not taking into account that the location where the temps are measures can vary around 5-7 degrees. As long as your system isnt overheating and crashing or locking up you've got nothing to worry about. Touch the heatsink with your finger, if its too hot to touch be worried, if its warm then everything is fine. Just make sure the HSF is make good contact with the CPU. Pete O'Neil (250)
271895 2004-09-13 07:29:00 cpu temps are not normally a big problem unless you have a custom built pc and the builder used an undersized heatsink.

the biggest heat problem i normally see is case temp, which can cause hardrive problems, chipset problems and cpu problems. a lot of cases are missing the normal fans or they are poorly configured.

271896 2004-09-13 07:32:00 Eh, mine crashes every time it hits 68 - 70+ degrees. For some reason it gets there very easy. The idle temperature is above 60 degrees somewhere for me, the computers still going so I dont think the temperature matters that much. mejobloggs (264)
271897 2004-09-13 20:38:00 Hallo thank you for your replies.
My cpu was runnig at 64C as per bios. I reported it to my supplier who requested it to be returned. They have tested it and confirmed it was running at this temp. so have sent it to the AMD distributer who has reported back to them saying thats ok as they can run up to 85C. I know they will run hot but I am sure that will shorten the life of the CPU.
But must admit when chip was running the heatsink was only just warm to touch. I hope to hear back from them soon as they have had the CPU now for 2 weeks

271898 2004-09-13 22:32:00 you need to remember that cpu temps are almost meaningless when they are out of context. cpu temp is heavly influenced by case temp which is influenced by room temp. without knowing all three its hard to give advice on what to do. tweak'e (174)

That really shouldnt be happening, if the PC is crashing that a bad thing. What your case cooling like? e.g fan etc Are you using the stock HSF?

271900 2004-09-13 22:46:00 There is a long histroy of Mejoeblogs's comp, The problem has been addresed numerous times on these forums, resulting in the comp being returned,.....which resulted in the comp being given the big thumbs up of health by the shop that provided it. metla (154)
271901 2004-09-14 01:22:00 The room temperture was cool it is the coldest room in the house. I want to use it in the hottest room in the house, sorry did not check what the case temp was, will do so when I get chip back kit2hugh (5936)
