271821 2004-09-13 03:33:00 I use AVG, free version (after having problems with Symantec sales and service, rather than the programme itself) Every so often it detects a virus that seems to have done nothing to my computer, no erratic behaviour other than the normal Windows stuff, no logging on late at night, or shutting me down or anything. The last one was called Dropper. Inor, the one before that Startpage 6. It suddenly occurred to me that I have no idea what these things are, or what they do, and if I was designing a virus program I would make sure that occasionally it found something even if there was nothing there. Does anyone know what these viruses are or if they are in fact viruses? Bumfluff (3523)
271822 2004-09-13 03:43:00 they sound like adware/spyware. the location on your pc will proberly give you more clues about it. my guess is that AVG saved you from being infected. tweak'e (174)
271823 2004-09-13 04:41:00 That's interesting, I've just downloaded the latest adaware and spybot programmes which should have taken care of those. Although about half the time I run the new adaware I get the blue screen of death. You may well be right though because I did the VirusScan just before I decided to upgrade those two programmes. Thanks for replying so promptly. Bumfluff (3523)
