271600 2004-09-13 00:32:00 good choice. Did you make sure it had 8pipelines and a 256bit memory interface? (Shouldnt be a problem i dont think gexcube make a dodgey 9800) Pete O'Neil (250)
271601 2004-09-13 02:48:00 yes i followed yours and metla's advice and made sure of the 256 mb and 8 pipeline thing so I am hopeful of a great outcome if i can install thecard... i am a bit worried about the power supply thing being a chicken s**t and all but i am able to learn new things... i think gstroud (6149)
271602 2004-09-13 02:51:00 What sort of PSU do you have? Pete O'Neil (250)
271603 2004-09-13 02:55:00 Good choice, I have the same card.

The Gecube 9800 pros have the r360 core (9800XT core) and can be flashed with an XT bios.

Using 3dMark 03

My stock 9800 pro @ 378/338 scores 5596
The same card with the XT bios @ 378/338 scores 5808
and @ 412/365 scores 6241

** The XT bios clocks your card at 412/365, so you either need to improve your cooling or underclock your card to stock speeds.

271604 2004-09-13 03:20:00 Yeah power supply is a big deal.

I upgraded from a Ti4600 to a R360 9800PRO - endless problems after chucking her in - data corruption, POSTing issues etc.

Even though the power supply I had was a 350w it was a peice of sh*t with the extra load.

A branded 420w did the trick.

What else is in your PC? e.g number of HDD's and optical drive etc Also do you know how many amps are on the 12v rail?
Pete O'Neil (250)
271607 2004-09-13 05:31:00 1 HDD 80gig
1 x optical DVD +- R RW asus
Don't know for sure what 12v amp rail exactly is though on the side of psu is +12v 10amp yellow...
seems too that there are less power cables available than ever before... I have firewire card that has power supply also..
