| 271916 | 2004-09-13 07:23:00 | My friend has a system running Windows 2000 Pro and an Epson Stylus Colour 600 printer. Up until recently the printer has been performing Ok. Now it is just printing garbage and when a print job is sent to it, it just continues feeding paper through and printing garbage. I have replaced the cable (parallel) with a new one, I have installed updated drivers, I've changed the parallel port settings in the BIOS and still no joy. I've confirmed that the printer is Ok (in theory) by doing a self-test and it seems to be Ok. The first page that it prints out normally has this at the top: REMOTEPMSNGU IECQC followed by a whole lot of garbage down the left hand side of the paper. I've just about run out of options here, short of re-installing Windows. Does any one know of a good printer diagnostics utility that can look at what's going on and tell me where the problem might be? |

The REOTEPMSNGU is almost believable as a remote printer ... something or other. I wonder if it has a dipswitch or similar internally for setting a diagnostic mode, and it has malfunctioned? |

If that doesn't work then there are some serious problems. If it does work the next thing to do is trying printing a few lines out of notepad. Let us know how you get on. Andrew |
