You should be able to use Windows Media Player to play them

Are you having problems with wmv & Windows Media Player?

272306 2004-09-14 11:56:00 You see I downloading some movie files using a p2p program and I would like to see a preview of the file to see if it is correct. Unfortunately they cannot be played in the p2p program or windows media player when the file is incomplete. Is there a program that allows you to play incomplete downloaded files? I tried virtualdub but that didn't work.

Thanks for your help
Michael

272307 2004-09-14 12:16:00 If this movie file from P2P is pirated (i.e. a copy of a copyright movie) then perhaps you should read the forum rules first? In other words, is what you are doing legal, If not then this would not be a wise post to make.

And until you finish the download, you do not have "a file".
Just data with no structure. Its not like streaming video.

What extention does the p2p program put on the uncompleted file?

272310 2004-09-15 09:48:00 The extension the program puts on the uncompleted file is .dat michael8 (1529)
272311 2004-09-15 10:07:00 or is the extension .wmv michael8 (1529)
272312 2004-09-15 10:12:00 dat viewer will let you view them.

I presume your using Kazza?,If you used Kazzalite you would have all the tools bundled with the program.

The files get there real extension only once the file has completed downloading,so if they are .wmv your media player should run em no sweat...no special software required,if they don't its more likely you have a corrupted file,or even a dummy file.

272313 2004-09-15 10:23:00 Everytime I play it in windows media player it says something about acquiring license and a license acquisition box comes saything something about runtime error. michael8 (1529)
