| 272208 | 2004-09-14 05:40:00 | Hi I've come across a problem with trying to uninstall Nortons Internet Security 2002 (also has effected Adobe Photoshop album). When I go to uninstall Norton's it tell me there is a "Error 1606. Could not acess network location \\Laptop\My documents\My pictures" It pops up a box with "Retry or Cancel", I click cancel, it brings up a box with "OK", I click OK and it returns with "Fatal error during installation. I have a desktop networked with a laptop and have since moved "my doc's" folder to the desktop. I am running Windows XP. It doesn't seem to be effecting any other programs. Can't understand why it needs access to My Pictures folder. Can anyone help |

| 272209 | 2004-09-14 06:15:00 | I take it that the laptop is not part of your network when doing this, I suspect whats going on thats its trying to scan that location for some reason try putting the laptop onto your network and see what happens try here (www.experts-exchange.com) you may need to sign up dont worry its free or google (www.google.co.nz) |

| 272210 | 2004-09-14 07:21:00 | Take a look at this Symantec article for this error with your Norton product: "Error 1606. Access to network drive . . (service1.symantec.com). As it is also affecting your Adobe product, it is probably the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) behind this problem. You will find a link in the above article to the MSI cleanup utility. |

I often have trouble with Symantec and their URL's which add session details - *sigh* To find the article I was referring to, go to this page here (www.symantec.com) and enter in 2000020412002136 (copy and paste it) into the search box. The first returned hit link is the one you want. |

When I went out of it, and went through Add/Remove in Windows, it said the program wasn't there. So I just did a search for all Norton's files and deleted them. Didn't damage anything and my computer still goes well. Norton's doesn't seem to like being removed for some reason. Have read other posts having a similar problem. my 2c worth anyway Marg. |

Yes, your computer still boots, but you now the remains of your previous program which was not uninstalled cleanly which can cause problems further down the track. It is much preferable to uninstall cleanly, or fix the problem which was preventing Norton's from uninstalling. > Norton's doesn't seem to like being removed for some > reason.
