272153 2004-09-14 00:54:00 May seem like a dumb question, does there happen to be any other method, as in a piece of software, that can erase data from a CD-R, instead of literally burning it, or scratching it, or snapping it. Scattershot06 (4844)
272154 2004-09-14 01:04:00 Nope - once data's burnt on a CD-R, it's there for good. wintertide (1306)
272155 2004-09-14 01:06:00 whats the point of eraseing data off a cd-r, you can't re-write data onto it. i can't see what there is to be gained by eraseing anything off it (assuming you could do it of course). tweak'e (174)
272156 2004-09-14 01:40:00 You _cant_ erase Data off a CD-R, however if it is a Multisession Disc you can change the TOC so it doesnt show it and re-burn it (Requires 14MB on the CD-R to continue a session....) Chilling_Silence (9)
272157 2004-09-14 01:46:00 3 seconds on high in the microwave works a treat.

If you turn the lights off in the room you get a little blue flash at the end - very amusing with no ill effects to the microwave.

Why the paranoia?

272159 2004-09-14 01:54:00 I just happened to have a CD with some data on it that I don't want anyone to find out about.
I am not too sure to do to the microwave thing as I am not too sure if you were being serious.
About the other other option, burning new data to it, will the old data still be physically on the disc? and is it still readable?

272162 2004-09-14 02:41:00 Read an article once that said even if you throw your had drive into an incinerator that they could still get data of it, the same article also wen on to say that even if you melt a cd, eventually they would be able to retrieve the information it contained. I do however find this hard to believe myself, and I can't remember where the site was that had that article. Odin (227)
