272093 2004-09-13 14:01:00 Does anyone know of a way, or 3rd party utility, to allow playing games that normally run in full screen mode in a window instead.
What I want to do is play Age of Empires 1.0 (an oldy but a goody) on my laptop, but as the games maximum resolution is less that the native resolution of my laptop screen I would perfer to play it in a window rather that stretching/interpolating it to fit the LCD screen resolution.

The game doesn't seem to have any option to play it in a window.

Any ideas?

272094 2004-09-13 14:13:00 you could try hitting ALT-ENTER during the game.... robsonde (120)
272095 2004-09-13 14:32:00 ALT-ENTER does nothing.
ALT-TAB will toggle between the windows desktop and the game in fill screen mode but it does mess up the Windows desktop a bit (task bar goes black, some pull down menus are black text on a black background etc) untill I log off and on againg.

By the way OS is Win2K SP4 and laptop graphics is a Mobility Radeon 9000 with a 1400 x 1050 LCD screen.

272096 2004-09-13 21:30:00 I know that nVidia cards have a option in the options (:D) that lets you specify a res, colour depth and refresh rate for each individual game .

Try trawling through your ATi options to see if theres an . . . option . . .

272097 2004-09-14 18:11:00 As far as I can remember I don't think the game itself supports being run in a window.

Have you tried editing the shortcut of the game (if you have one.. or the .exe file) see if you can change the RUN FIELD to MINIMISED OR NORMAL WINDOW.

Not sure if that will work though.

272098 2004-09-15 07:03:00 I have tried everything I can find/think of using the options available in AoE and Windows and have come to the conclusion that it is not possible that way .

What I thought might be possible is a 3rd party utility to play a game that has say a maximum resolution of 800 x 600 in a 800 x 600 window of a higher resolution LCD screen - but I can't seem to find anything .

May just have to put up with the stretched pixels as it interpolated the screen to the LCDs natiive resolution .
