| 271980 | 2004-09-14 06:07:00 | Thanks everybody for the info, I feel I have a basic understanding of what I need to do now.Wireless is going to be a bit pricey so will sort out some long cable !!.I'll check the computers for the wifi and network card, they are only a few months old so hopefully I'll have these. If I get stuck I'll be picking your brains again. Thanks. |

| 271981 | 2004-09-14 09:25:00 | Sorry, stuck already. My pc has a rhine 11 fast ethernet card which is great, (I think), our laptop (which is a compaq presario, 3 months old) has a national semiconductor corp mac Phyter pci adapter, it is described as a network adapter, will this do or not ?.It has a RJ-45 jack in the back to connect a network cable, can I use this with my ethernet card ?. I am just going to network via cable as wireless would get expensive by all accounts.Again any help greatly appreciated.Thanks. |

If you feel like tackling it, get your cable from an electrical trade store, miles cheaper than buying off the shelf, get RK45 connectors there too and find a friendly electrician or telecoms tech for the combo wire cutters and crimping tool, I can dig out a picture and post it of how the cat5/6 should be connected fore bot straight through and crossover cables. | 271983 | 2004-09-16 06:38:00 | Well, thanks for all the info, all networked, all I had to buy was 10 metres of cable and follow the wizard, plus a few adjustments, seemed to be too easy.I am getting broadband next week, so may need some advice setting my router up etc. Thanks. |

| 271984 | 2004-09-23 07:22:00 | Hello guys & girls, Sorry, yes me again. I have just installed my router for jetstream and am having a few problems.I bought a DSE router from Dick Smith, followed the install CD which seemed great, got all connected last night and it was great, very quick, no problems.I have networked my wifes laptop which works ok also. Came to it tonight and half the sites in my favourites are accessable really quickly, the others either time out or take an age to get on.(The laptop is the same)Maybe coincidence but seems the NZ sites (Like this) are worse.I'm a newbie so any advice would be greatly appreciated.I have connected using ethernet and like I say I haven't manually entered any settings apart from my isp (Slingshot) user name & password, otherwise everything was set automatically. Thanks. |

| 271985 | 2004-09-23 08:04:00 | I don't think there will anything wrong with the way you have set up jetstream, if some sites are fast, I think I would talk to Slingshot about it. There are some issues with jet stream, like some sites are not accessible at all, something to do with the 222 IP address range jetstream is using. You could try switching the router off and on again to get a different IP address (if not static) and see if that helps, the router should keep all the settings. |

Both Press F1 & Xtra (Telecom) had a few Problems last night If you are still having problems with accessing a few site in a few days time post back here. |
