272349 2004-09-14 19:46:00 Do you charge "labor" for computer repairs?
If so why? are you not selling a service your customer does not know what to do? or put it another way, If most of your customers knew how to fix it, don't think they would do it instead,

If you do sell "labor" as a unit of diagnostic and repair, in that case I think you are underselling the repair industry, and sorry to hear that you don't know what you are doing, but you just use a hit and miss approach to see if it will work when you finish.

272352 2004-09-14 20:45:00 huh??? can someone please explain exactly what this is about? Is it a continuation of a previous locked thread which I don't know about???? somebody (208)
272353 2004-09-14 20:50:00 i was aware that the spelling was "labour" MrBeef (342)
272354 2004-09-14 21:05:00 I presume your asking if in a situation where a repairer took say 5 hours to fix a problem that could have been fixed in 10 minutes would they still charge out for the full 5 hours? metla (154)
272355 2004-09-14 21:20:00 Metla
Maybe you are right but I don't get this at all. Labour is a charge for time and perhaps expertise. I don't call it Labour, but if I didn't charge for it I would be living in a bus shelter.
Earnie, can you elucidate? You aren't suggesting hardware margins cover free labour?

272356 2004-09-14 21:22:00 I have a little rule for myself..........if i take x hours to fix a problem and that's what it woulda taken most other techs then that's whta i charge........generally ........however sometimes i wont charge even that much cause it'd be worth more than the pc......otherwise if I have a pc to fix and it takes me a lot longer than it *should* cause of some lack in my knowledge I'll charge what I *think* it should *really* have been.....I dont expect my customers to pay for me to learn...... drcspy (146)
272357 2004-09-14 21:25:00 Not really sure what the point of this post is, but if you use this analogy then you would expect that the following trades should not charge for labour either:-

Electrician
Mechanics
Plumbers
etc, etc, etc.

272358 2004-09-14 21:57:00 I think he is trying to say, If a job takes longer than it should because of repairer's incompatence should he charge for his labour.
