272706 2004-09-15 21:16:00 I took my puglet (peugeot) for a wof yesterday and it failed because
a) it has moisture in the headlight
b) the seat belt was behind the seat.
I cant believe they failed the puglet for 2 silly reasons.
Has anyone any suggestions for removing the moisture as it is a sealed headlight?
I cant pull it appart to dry it.

Go for a drive, with the headlights "on" (or leave it running with the headlights "on"

Headlights get quite warm when operating. That may/should (temporarily) drive out the moisture.

Its puget,

The lamp obviously has a hole in it.

Put it in the oven warmer draw (DON'T over heat it) after all the moisture has gone try putting some sealer around the joint between the clear and reflective sections.

Put it back in and get it retested quickly.

In the long term you must get another, try to get a semi sealed as they dont have this problem!

272710 2004-09-15 23:08:00 Hi Sandy, i remember a few years back when i had my older model prelude, i had always passed w.o.f's no probs before - then all of a sudden i was told i couldn't get one because the little windows in the back passengers (side windows) were tinted, it was brought that way and they all came out that way and had always passed before?:|, then to top it off they refused my seatbelt because the sew on safety label had fallen off, the sewing had come undone but i had the little label. The seatbelt worked perfectly well though. Ridiculously enough i stapled the label back on and they accepted it that way :^O. J ZEP (336)
272711 2004-09-15 23:23:00 if my wagon ever fails a warrent,i just take it to a different garage, works everytime.

Bald tires,engine spewing oil,broken suspension,worn out brakes,rust,......No problem.

As long as the stereo cranks then life is good.

272712 2004-09-15 23:32:00 My daughter's boyfriend just had the same headlight problem. The guy that did the WOF told him to go home, get a hairdrier and use that to get the moisture out of the unit. There must be a wee hole somewhere to point the drier thru. I suppose a sealed beam means you cannot pull the bulb out of the back to create a large 'hairdrier friendly' hole. Failing that I guess just directing the hot air on the glass where the moisture is would make it evaporate eventually and go ... somewhere?
When the moisture is gone and if there is a hole, seal it with a wee bit of clear silicone saealer. (Cost $9 I think).

Good luck.

272713 2004-09-15 23:44:00 Someone clearly needs to have a decent look at warrant requirements methinks - I took my bluebird in a week ago and was told that my reverse lights didn't work... fair enough - can't say I'd noticed, but I said I'd look into it. Never mind says the mechanic, you still get the warrant because working reverse lights aren't a requirement!! :O

Now who the hell decided that a car missing a warning label on a seatbelt is more dangerous than one with busted reverse lights!!??

272714 2004-09-15 23:49:00 the wof rules are getting really stupid . not only that is they are left open to interpation . what one garage thinks is ok another dosn't . i went through the rules myself after my car got knocked back for having pro lowered springs . some are tough simply so they don't get sued!

mind you there are some that are so rough its not funny, mate bought a camper which had a day old warrant which failed a warrant test 2 weeks later with some very serious faults .

272715 2004-09-16 00:58:00 thank you all for your replies.
i think i will try the hairdryer on it.
they are getting stupid and picky. I remember it use to cost 5 bucks and they would fix any silly problems like that for no charge. It would of taken them all of 2 seconds to put the seatbelt into its correct position.
