2004-09-18 10:06:00 | olldaddy76: What SP2 does is immaterial for those of us not running XP...and there are quite a lot of us like that here. We all have our own ways of blocking pop-ups - and thank heavens there are plenty of choices. Why would you want to change the topic to SP2 only - or did I misunderstand your meaning?

I don't think he has read the thread as his post is related to pop-ups, not the issue with the Xtra banner at the top of this forum - which was the subject matter of this thread. You didn't need to get all up on your high mule and start dressing him down - though your propensity to do so means you must get a lot out of it so maybe we should just let you have your fun. |

2004-09-18 13:43:00 | WTF; That wasn't a dressing down - merely an enquiry. I leave the dressing-downs to you, as you're so much more practised at that on this forum than I am.

2004-09-19 01:07:00 | Hi Metla, I just downloaded the Proxomitron as recommended but although it blocks the ads brilliantly, it will no longer let me post replies to a website I use every day. The box where you type your message is missing. I'd like to uninstall this software but I can't find it anywhere! Any suggestions would be most welcome!

2004-09-19 01:50:00 | the proximitron icon shows up as a green triangle on your taskbar(bottom right of screen) when visiting a page that is crippled by proximitron, just right click the taskbar icon and click disable, then refresh the page your on. Otherwise you can configure Proximitron to only filter out certain aspects or elements of a page,or get rid of it entirely by uninstalling it from your add/remove programs list in your control panel. Keep in mind that you will have to remove the proxy port settings you made in your browser when u installed Proximitron if you get rid of it.

2004-09-19 02:00:00 | Thanks Metla, since posting I had a bit of a play and discovered I could disable it (but now it appears to have disappeared forever!), and I did go in and change the proxy port settings. I couldn't figure our how to get it to allow certain pages to load fully, and for some reason it is not showing up when I go into the control panel to remove it as suggested. Bizarre, no wonder I don't usually play around with stuff I know nothing about! I think I hate pop-up ad makers as much as I hate hackers and virus makers!

2004-09-19 02:43:00 | Also the programs makes no reg entries or deposits any files anywhere apart from the program folder its installed in,so deleting the folder is a perfectly acceptable way of removing the program. | metla (154) | |
