272784 2004-09-16 07:32:00 you might as well go add Japan to your list and get everything else wrong iloveny69 (5525)
272785 2004-09-16 09:18:00 Well I don't know what to make of it all. They have sh*t hot broadband in Sweden too - and that has a similar sort of geography and population to New Zealand.

Personally I'm a bit disappointed with some of the Wireless offers I've seen floating around. They only seem to just match or slightly better telecoms adsl in the areas they are available. And also to see that the basic adsl package is still only stuck on 128 (and only moving up to 256 next month!). And to put a knife in it all, we have to endure pathetic data caps.

It can't all be Telecom's fault. Tho I don't like them, I don't entirely blame them. I blame the IT illerate politicians who have obviously been taking a few backhanders from Ms Gattung to make sure Telecom's shareholders are kept happy.

272786 2004-09-16 09:23:00 Anyway...I doubt the South Koreans get out much.
We have alot of things in this country that money can't buy and that you can't find anywhere else in the World. If it means waiting a few years before we get decent broadband then I suppose it's a small sacrifice to make.

Maybe I should re-read again but where does "you people" come in. You make sweeping generalisations about sweeping generalisations. The only countries I saw in the developing list that probably should not be there are Singapore and Taiwan

Yes, and that is the problem. For a country with a reputation for early adoption and fast uptake of new technologies we're lagging way behind in the broadband stakes. As mentioned above, size and topography have very little to do with it when you consider similar economies including individual states in America (our infrastructure is largely there already anyway).

Put some facts in with your innuendo and jibes.

I did stay on the point. The point is there is clearly not alot we can do about it apart from lobbying so don't let it be the be all and end all of life.
As previous posts pointed out...if it really matters that much then go and live in Korea.
We all know it is in New Zealand's interest to have better broadband and to keep up with the rest of the world. Don't think that the politicians don't know that either. At the end of the day it all comes down to money...and someone sure is making a hell of alot of it at our expense.
