| 273285 | 2004-09-17 11:13:00 | Following up a post I put up earlier (DVD Multizone Software) I got some help for which I'm thankful for, however the software other PressF1 users suggested were only monthly trials. Surely there must be some completely free multizone software on the net somewhere that I can download that someone knows of. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far anyway. Cheers Av4tarnz |

Both my Burner and my Laptops DVD-Rom are still set to region 2 IIRC which is the default. Ive played DVD's from regions 2, 4, and I'm pretty sure 1 also, with no worries.... Im sure there's a Live Distro designed for Media-Center PC's... Atomix or something I think. Chill. |

Last I heard they had to Rip and Decrypt the DVD to their hard drives just to watch it, because the DVD decoding algorithms require a license from somewhere to do it which costs lots of money? | alphazulusixeightniner (185) | ||
| 273289 | 2004-09-17 17:49:00 | Step 1: Insert DVD Step 2: Load DVD Player of Choice (I like Kaffeine, vlc, mplayer, xine, ogle....) Step 3: Tell DVD-Software-of-choice to play DVD. In Kaffeine this involves clicking the Play menu --> DVD Kaffeine can easily be set to auto-load upon DVD insertion. Of course you could use DVD::Rip, or dvdbackup to rip it to your HDD, but that'd just be doing things the long way round ;-) IIRC, DivX was initially created while trying to decode DVD's in Linux.
