| 273171 | 2004-09-17 07:23:00 | Group, My desktop just crashed on me. It says it cannot find either the primary hard drive or the master boot record. I am using windows xp professional and I have two Western Digital 120 GB hard drives in my desktop. The master HD has the O/S on it and the other HD is formated for file storage. I have tried the windows 98 boot disk and the fdisk /mbr but it tells me no fixed disks could be found. Can anyone help me get my computer back up and running again? Id like to get it working again without formating the computer. Thanks Doug |

Are the hdd shown it the bios A full power down, disconect from mains, the start into bios screen may be a good start poin. > > The master HD has the O/S on it and the other HD is > formated for file storage. > > I have tried the windows 98 boot disk and the fdisk > /mbr but it tells me no fixed disks could be found. This is why I am asking to power down and check in bios. allthough 120 is big fdisk will see 200 it just wont report it properly. > > Can anyone help me get my computer back up and > running again? > > Id like to get it working again without formating the > computer. > > Thanks > > Doug |

| 273173 | 2004-09-17 07:45:00 | Hi and Welcome to PressF1 :) Does the BIOS recognise the drives still? To get into the BIOS, keep tapping the DEL key when you see a brief message at the bottom on the bootup screen about Entering Setup. Look and see if your drives are detected and if it is set to AUTO under Type. |

In the Bios there should/May be an auto auto detect hard drive section if there is use this to check for the drives. Also people will want to Know: the brand of machine, bios version and type, mother board brand, type, and version. |
