273507 2004-09-18 10:17:00 I am trying to get Ximian Evolution configured. Everything looks OK but when I attempt to send or receive the following message comes up:

host lookup failed: server assigned: host not found

ISP is Freenet.
I have tried "Server assigned" as hostname. Also "Pop3.free.net.nz" and "Smtp.free.net.nz",
Neither work. What should I do?

Hi Antonia :)

Did you use capital letters in the settings like you did in your post? They need to be lowercase.

Try this:
Receiving Mail tab
Host: pop3.free.net.nz

Sending Mail tab
Host: smtp.free.net.nz

273509 2004-09-18 18:59:00 No JenC, that does not make any difference, pity.

It is probably just a little thing I am missing. There was no hitch with Mozilla Mail.
What do you use for Host? That might give me a clue.

Thanks, Antonia

273510 2004-09-18 19:17:00 Halfway there!

We can now receive mail successfully. Will keep trying.

273511 2004-09-18 19:49:00 I'm using a more newer version of Evolution that you are, so my setup dialog boxes might be laid out a bit differently than yours. To send mail, check you selected Server Type as SMTP, and host should be smtp.free.net.nz. Under use secure connection (SSL) select "never" and don't tick "server requires authentication". Jen C (20)
273512 2004-09-21 03:21:00 Thanks JenC . My settings were the same as yours, so that was not the problem .

But Evolution is working fine now . I removed and then reinstalled the network devices and that did the trick . Not sure how or why but I am happy . Slowly but surely we are getting Fedora under control .

Next item on the agenda is sound .

Bye for now, always grateful for your help .

273514 2004-09-21 06:37:00 Errmmm. There may be a really good reason for it but why run FC 1? Fedora 2 is much better and less buggy.

If you cant download it (dial up) then I can send you the disks.

273515 2004-09-21 06:39:00 Fedora Core 3 will be out in November....

I recommend Yoper personally ;-) One Disc has all you need, and its on the JSG Realm, like Fedora :-)

Personally I found Yoper a bit ummmm unfinished. Thats just my opinion and a noob one at that.
