274195 2004-09-20 21:39:00 I moved my '98SE system from its old desk to a new one and when I re-booted it told me that my display adaptor driver didn't match my hardware. So I reloded the driver and still got the message. Then when I restarted everything hung and I found that explorer was not functioning. I repeated that several times with the same result. I tried reloading the driver in safe mode and that got rid of the error message, but now the display settings provide only two options 256 or 16 bit True Colour, but its stuck on 256. So what now? 274196 2004-09-20 22:03:00 Reseat the video card?

Cards can partially "pop" out of their slots when cases are moved.

274197 2004-09-20 22:33:00 Can I do that or do I ahve to pay an expert? Timewarp (5962)
274198 2004-09-20 22:37:00 You can do that. Just open the case find the video card (with power off of course). And push it in a bit more. Dont put too much pressure on it tho. Spacemannz (808)

274201 2004-09-21 13:21:00 Start/Control Panel/ Add/Remove Hardware etc.

This should be a simple problem, just persist, I have done this many times before when repairing many monitors on one computer and changing them to repair each one.

I have graduated to Win2K now and Win98SE is getting hazy.

274202 2004-09-22 09:05:00 I have found the Video card problem This is the message...
The device (Trident Blade MVP3) canot find any free Input/Output Range (I/O) resources to use (Code 12)
If you want to use this device you must disable another device that is using the resources that this device needs. To do this, click Hardware Troubleshooter and follow the instructions in the wizard.
BUT
1) the wizard is blank
2) I can't find the device that is conflicting with the video card.
3)How can I determine what is causing the problem without the aid of the troubleshooter?
4) When I checked in add/remove hardware I had three installations for the card, I removed two of them. What would happen if I remove the last one?

274204 2004-09-22 09:29:00 I did it anyway - removed the video driver from the device manager in control panel/ system... everything went black as expected, so I restarted, windows installed a display driver it liked and everything seems back to normal, so far so good. Timewarp (5962)
