274065 2004-09-20 05:54:00 Hi, does anyone know whether a digital camera can turn into a web cam. I got Sony Powershot A70 Digital camera. It can take video clip, but it doesn't have the web cam function. I like to hear from anyone who successfully turn yr normal digital to web cam. Thanks in advance. ahd8888 (184)

One way to find out is install the drivers and load something like yahoo messenger, then select webcam. If it doesnt come on it cant be used as a webcam. Spacemannz (808)

274068 2004-09-20 08:22:00 The Canon A70 supports RemoteCapture, but unsure how that operates.
The software is included, so thats worth a look.

Basically if the camera firmware does not allow the image to be streamed over the USB, no external software or driver can change that.

However all digital cameras here do support that feature.

274069 2004-09-20 08:38:00 The Canon Powershot A70 cannot act as a webcam. The Remote Capture software that comes with the camera, merely allows you to control your camera settings or operate it from a PC.

Canon Utilities RemoteCapture - Version 2.7.0 (web.canon.jp).

I have that same model of camera.

tinyurl.com Without remote capture the viewfinder would timeout after 3 minutes. You can buy a webcam for less than a capture card.
