274459 2004-09-21 22:15:00 Hi Folks. Every now and then some clever dick mentions in a posting a Start > Run > Open > activity that I have not met before. The most recent was dxdiag. I try to keep a log/index of these functions and their results. Is there anywhere a definitive list of all transactions which can be handled this way in XP Pro? I have Googled this without a great deal of success. Thanks. Scouse (83)
274460 2004-09-21 22:34:00 I don't know of a list, but just about anything can be started from the run command

often you don't even have to add the .exe
type notepad & notepad will open
type photoshop & photoshop will open
type in the full path to a picture in my pictures & that picture will open
type in an internet address & it will open

if it is a list of XP services that you are looking for & what they do there are hundreds of sites available
www.theeldergeek.com
being one of them
http://www.blackviper.com/
being another
but there are literally hundreds of them

274463 2004-09-22 00:34:00 45south and johnboy. Prompt reply appreciated. It is more the diagnostic type - cryptic looking entries - that I am trying to compile a list of. Off to a good start. Thanks. Scouse (83)
274464 2004-09-22 00:39:00 Hi johnboy - that tripod site does not run. Typo? Response is.....

274466 2004-09-22 08:18:00 Hi folks. Just an early evening "bounce" before I let this thing die. Anyone out there have any diagnostic or system review type transactions they use in Run? Thanks. Scouse. Scouse (83)
274467 2004-09-22 09:08:00 In WinXP you can type sysedit in the run box.

On my system this will open a number of windows and I can edit a number of files. This will include Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Win.ini and System.ini

274468 2004-09-22 09:20:00 I use gpedit.msc all the time
You can make all sorts of configuration changes from here
But don't muck around with anything, unless you know exactly what the results will be
And make notes of changes so you can reverse them
