| 274256 | 2004-09-21 00:24:00 | Hello all, I am running AMD Duron with win98. The system has an on board modem and NIC which both work. I added a second NIC (CNet Pro 200) on a PCI port. When I turned the PC back on after installing the card, windows detected the card and installed it with the help of the cards driver floppy. After a reboot all went well, no conflicts in the control panel->system. But when I tried using IPCONFIG it only listed the other card and modem. So I thought it was some conflict with the other NIC, so I uninstalled both NICs and turned the onboard NIC off in the bios. Then tuned on the computer again and the same thing happened, installed fine but see not see it in IPCONFIG. I then thought it may just be IPCONFIG, so I tried communicating with it from a PC I used to communicate with the other NIC. Nothing. It seems strange that a network card can be auto detected and installed fine and then not be seen by the networking system. The cards are not old, and I have used them before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, even other forums to look at Ross |

Have you set it up in your Network properties (Network Neighbourhood in win98, isn't it?). You'll need to assign it a different IP than the other adapters. Cheers Murray P |

I have given it an IP address one simair to the other and the same subnet mask, like the outher card I have left the rest of the settings at their defaults or blank (ie wins etc). |
