274556 2004-09-22 10:37:00 I can't find anything on the HP website about monitors (I haven't looked very hard) nor inkjet printers (per the previous OOT in this thread) but this page (h10025.www1.hp.com) gives the HP policy on the use of non-HP toner cartridges in HP laser printers and the (non) impact on the warranty. Same logic applies to monitors doesn't it?

I say the warranty stands unless the supplier can show that the fault was caused directly by use of generic inks, i.e failed print heads etc. and in that example, the only parts excluded from warranty repair or replacement would be the print heads.

”You lost me there Alan. As far as I can see we are
singing exactly the same song.”

Yes, I agree we are, although when posting I was referring to this statement >>

"They can legally do that though agent, “

My thinking is Agent was referring to the common practice of some service agencies to cite third party cartridges as a reason for denying warranty repairs.
Despite the problem with the printer having nothing to do with ink or cartridges.

As you correctly pointed out, they would indeed be within their rights to deny warranty claims if it could be proved the damage was caused by third party cartridges or ink.

Of course you did clarify the issue more in your later posts, which unfortunately I did not see till after posting my response.

As a matter of interest if you buy your third party ink from a reputable source.
You are almost always covered by either the sellers warranty or ink manufacturers warranty in regard to damage to the printer.

If you cannot find this warranty expressed on either the vendors information, or manufaturers cartridge packaging, it would be a good reason to choose a different brand.

274559 2004-09-22 21:10:00 Morning all,

Problem solved. :D Turns out it was a management position higher up the chain that told my customer that and not HP at all!
I just quoted them HP LCD screens instead and still came out cheaper than HP themselves!

I'll wait and see what response I get from them now.
