2014-03-27 01:29:00 | I have a desktop using Thunderbird for emails. I also have an old Laptop which I use very infrequently for music and as a bit of a back-up. Since recent xtra settings changes, the Lappy is picking up a back-log of old emails. Today for example it loaded 128 old emails, dating back quite a while. I have viewed the settings in Tools/Accounts etc but am loathe to fiddle with them in case I stuff up. What should this be set at to avoid this problem...?

2014-03-27 01:48:00 | I have similar problems when I use multiple devices to check my E-mail - it seems to confuse the "mark as read" setting on the server. I've changed mine to delete E-mails off the server when I delete them from my inbox so at least it doesn't keep bringing back the ones I don't want, but even that doesn't seem to always work. I don't have a solution though, my android phone generally has around 40-50 "unread" messages on it constantly and if I delete them or mark as read it just goes and grabs more older ones so I've given up trying to sort that. At home I try to stick to just one PC for E-mail and I use live mail, that at least seems to work ok.

2014-03-27 02:03:00 | Thanks for your quick reply. I have changed the settings to "until I delete them" which seems to make sense....can't see any need to "back capture" them after clearing them out. Will give it a few days and see if it helps.

2014-03-28 20:58:00 | Deleting (see my previous post) seems to be doing the job.....a check of my web mail showed only a few very recent ones there....thanks. | bazmeister (3216) | |
2014-03-30 11:08:00 | I use a kiwi program called Mail Washer. This enables me to see the mail on the server and delete the spam before I open a mail client. This way I can delete any files that have been downloaded. Mail Washer will handle several accounts at a time. | mzee (3324) | |
2014-04-01 02:11:00 | I use a kiwi program called Mail Washer. This enables me to see the mail on the server and delete the spam before I open a mail client. This way I can delete any files that have been downloaded. Mail Washer will handle several accounts at a time. You can also delete files direct from the server, which prevents any future regurgitations, but if you delete in error you can also restore them within a specified time limit. I'm not sure what options are offered but mine is set for 30 days and if I haven't recovered the file by then I'm never going to want it. Black-listed sources are automatically dumped. I am vetting the content of several accounts and that is a real blessing! Cheers Billy 8-{)

2014-04-01 03:19:00 | I used to use Mail Washer years ago, these days I don't think it's really any better than the inbuilt spam filter in most E-mail clients. I get very little spam in my In box. | dugimodo (138) | |
