1371346 2014-03-26 10:36:00 under linux both card readers work fine.

under windows the lights light up on one of them but no devices are ever enumerated.

my poor mum needs me to boot to linux whenever she wants photos taken off her camera so she can pu them on trademe.

puppy linux also compounds this issue by displaying garbled text once the desktop is reached (usable to a point)

so what gives, any ideas?

1371347 2014-03-26 16:08:00 How are they connected? Internally or connected to a hub?? If you're using a hub remove it. Not everything will work with a hub Speedy Gonzales (78)
1371348 2014-03-26 21:22:00 Its obviously some win issue since they work in Linux.
Check device manager to see it there are any 'devices' needing drivers
What ver of Win is it. If its Xp, there may be issue reading exFat .
In Win "disk mangement' do the cards show up as unrecognised or not at all

For me, Its usually far easier to read the card via the camera. ie leave the card in the camera & plug camera into PC

1371349 2014-03-30 06:55:00 Devices managers lists SM Bus Controller and Unknown device as other devices.

When updating drivers for SM Bus Controller windows is unable to find any.

same goes for unknown device

This is most likely the cause of your problem

Try this
www.pcworld.com

Or do you have the original driver disk for your motherboard (have you reinstalled windows at some point and not installed the drivers)?

1371351 2014-03-30 08:25:00 When updating drivers for SM Bus Controller windows is unable to find any. They wont, as feersumendjinn posted, they will be on the manufacture of your motherboards site. They are generally in the chipset install drivers. Windows 7 ( and 8) will only pick up some drivers, not all, you still need to install them to work correctly. wainuitech (129)
