| 1370756 | 2014-03-20 06:30:00 | Wow! Internet Explorer just lost a user. I have a friend with Windows 8 and she wanted Google as her home page. But it came up with Bing and MSN. I tried to make Google the Home page, but could not. I did all sort of searches on how to do it, but none of them worked. So talked her into letting me put Firefox on with Google as her home page. Done in 5 minutes. Looks like MS really don't want to make it easy, what would the EU say about that ? |

One way go to your page you want, Eg Google ( leave IE open) . Open the control panel and open OR go to the start screen and type in Internet Options, open it from the search result on the right - on the general tab ( default open) under Home page, click on Use current. Another is open IE, show the menu bar, to show that right click a blank area near the address bar, select Menu Bar: 5631 Then on the menu Bar, click Tools/ Internet Options -- rest as above. |

| 1370758 | 2014-03-20 08:42:00 | If you are talking about the start screen app that's easy as well - instructions from Microsoft: windows.microsoft.com Just a comment: Just because something is not "in your face as an option" doesn't make a program hard to use or bad, just means a person doesn't know the answer (everyone is like that, NOBODY knows everything), as for google searches and finding nothing, searching the right terms does bring results ( and that's the trick) - enter in the following " IE app change home page windows 8.1" The 1st result is linked above - wasn't that hard ;) That's why I put the following picture on my FB page as a joke : 5632 :D :D |

I spent about 15 minutes trying to find out how to do it, and I am usually pretty good at that sort of thing, having grown up with Dos and 3.11 It really seems to me that they don't want you to be able to do it. |

| 1370761 | 2014-03-20 18:55:00 | Are you talking about the Bing app? LoL, if that's the case go to the store and download the Google app and use that instead. Hope that's what you mean because that's funny. The Bing shortcut on the start screen is a separate app not an explorer shortcut. |

| 1370762 | 2014-03-20 19:05:00 | ya need to be a little more precise then digby ol son ;) you asked : I tried to make Google the Home page, but could not. The instructions posted will change the home page, done it a million times so to speak. Thats the first thing I normally do when setting up a PC, change the home page from MSN to what the person wants. If you mean Bing Search, then thats different again, but its also only on the desktop version, you open Tools, Manage add ons, / search providers and alter to suit, add in different providers as you want. To quote dugimodo: "The Bing shortcut on the start screen is a separate app not an explorer shortcut." Then again you can easily remove Bing by going into the control panel, Programs and features locate Bing, uninstall. Perhaps - can you post a screen shot of exactly what you are referring to please, that way the correct instructions for the problem can be posted :) |

| 1370763 | 2014-03-20 21:47:00 | It might pay to reset IE to defaults: this will disable all IE toolbars etc. Control panel => internet => advanced => reset After that , If you want google as the default search engine, set the homepage to www.google.co.nz. The 1st time there it will/should ask if you want to set google as the search engine And uninstall bing, but this wont completely remove it from IE for some reason (Bl**dy MS) |
