Sounds like it from reports, or he got a hand from a guard. Makes sense for him if he did it himself. Does a deal to avoid the death sentence, which gets rid of even higher observation and a lengthy wait. Pure speculation of course. Pretty sure he deserved to suffer for a while longer before taking the cowards way out.
