1370814 2014-07-11 11:50:00 I also bought a new laptop too,
I went to buy Asus V551lb . I think Windows 8.1 is awful to use but after installing the start bar its not that bad

But the HP consumer laptops really are junk!

1370816 2014-07-11 22:11:00 Glad you're satisfied with the new machine Winston. Seems like a reasonable choice, given the price. My i7 Toshiba cost me $2200 and I'm not perfectly happy. Hope it serves you well. Greg (193)
1370817 2014-07-12 06:57:00 First may I gently object to threads being closed at 3 months. I wanted to add these comments to an earlier thread but its been 4 months. Six months might be a better cut-off. You are most welcome to PM either Chill or myself if you want a locked thread re-opened. :) Jen (38)

And yes I have read many times the views against HP consumer machines and to be honest am a bit surprised. But persuaded myself the Envy line were semi-pro etc etc.

And the Toshie I bought for my daughter had a hard-drive failure at 18 months just as she was facing university finals.

Basically it is a high-spec machine for the price and wasn't a comparable Toshie or Asus available. I think this is it - pcs don't appear to have model names printed on them these days:

... and unlocked. Leaving off that last step could have been a tad embarrassing.
