1353198 2013-09-11 03:59:00 Why do people hate Apple for releasing new products regularly and making the older products outdated?
This is technology after all and when you buy a PC/laptop it's pretty much out of date before you get it home but you don't hear people complaining about that.
I've got an iPhone 4 and it will run iOS7 and that model is over 2 & 1/2 years old now.

It'd be fine if the new products actually had upgrades. ;)

1353200 2013-09-11 04:46:00 Pretty underwhelming release IMO.

I think apple is fairly good with making iOS devices upgradable/backwards compatible though - certainly no worse than Android stuff.

1353202 2013-09-11 04:58:00 still the same 8MP camera...

Im not sure why phone cameras even get a a mention...
Surely a phone is the LAST thing you should expect quality photos & vids from....
given its a tiny tiny lens, & a small sensor very close to the lens . Increasing res of the sensor doesnt mean better quality

any comments from the camera buffs out there ??
are ph cameras all just marketing hype , convenience not quality ??

But in general, I think they days of the Iphone being the coolest/must have phone, that everyone(ie the masses) wanted are over.
Apple need to have to have products that are actually better than the newish Samsungs , the Samsung phones are becoming the Cool ph that the masses drool over.

For some people, hate alone is a reason to find a reason to hate .
When they brought the iPad4 out the backlash just made me think "I can't afford to get the latest hardware, so the consumer in general should suffer and technological advancement should come only once a year . "

(Or maybe once in 5 years, whatca say tux?)

it has got upgrades .

This seems to be an issue . But if you look at it, Apple's under the hood improvements have always been great . But no one gives a damn (perhaps fairly) .
But when you say "quad core", "octa core" people jump up and down like it's the holy grail . Even if the performance doesn't match Apple's dual cores .

Apple must have realised two years ago with the 4S, that people don't care about "improvements", they just want change . The iPhone 5 was a mistake, they shoudl have gone to a 1080p screen - the technology was already out there with HTC Butterfly within a month, IIRC .
This year they should have learned from their past mistakes . It seems they didn't, and they've gone with a silly feature that 1) won't work 2) everyone will forget in a week .

A mid range phone, take away from Apple prestige, were it not plastic, it could have been successful . No one (except perhaps pre-teens who like the pink colours) is going to pick a plastic phone over say the HTC One Mini and it's premium feel at the same price .

If I was an Apple shareholder, I'd be (selling fast and) crying .

Er problem . 2nd gen ipods only support up to ios 4 . 2 . 2 no ios 4 . 3 support

I realise . You should be happy that you were supported (ie most apps worked) for 4 years since of the iPod, and that it is still usable . Like I said, go find older versions of apps you want, they are out there . I installed Skype and games on my ex's iphone 3G long after she couldn't from the appstore . Maybe look into idroid, they probably support older ipods .

My own dislike of the Apple ecosystem is based on 6 months trouble with an outright purchased 3GS - bricking, bugs in the Calendar and timezone settings that Apple took their own sweet time to resolve . For a $1300 device, the user experience was abysmal . I will never go back .

I think a lot of the "hate" is for the marketing hype each time a "new" iPhone is launched . Apple spin it so it seems that they are doing their users a favour by providing 'improvements' and 'new features' that are innovative and ground-breaking, when in truth most of the time the new features have been available in Android OS for months (if not years) .

Yes, the original iPhone was entirely new, insofar as it was the first time that ALL these features were available on the one phone (although Palm, and others had many of the features copied off their range of phones) .

But since around about the launch of the iPhone 4, Apple have just been playing catch-up, which is exactly what has happened with iOS 7 .

As for the iPhone 5S and 5C - pah! Tim Cooke has no strategy to leap-frog his opposition . All he's doing is repackaging the same ol', same ol' .

After years of creaming it on the shares, shareholders would be extremely wise to spread their risk and sell down their Apple holdings . . .

1353207 2013-09-11 08:30:00 I would imagine the 5C will do well in the states. If it wasn't for the ridiculous region fixed pricing it might have done well here. If the price eventually drops into the $350ish(nz) price bracket it might see an increase in sales. I would have hoped that it would go no higher than $550nz off contract here at launch but that's the USD price.

Google shouldn't have let carriers distribute updates and roms the way they did. Chances are there is an update for your device, your carrier just isn't pushing it.
