1352449 2013-09-01 23:26:00 Thomson is an Alcatel brand name (I think), they dropped it a year or two back and call themselves technicolor now but it's still the same manufacturer.

I'm not a fan after the poor reliability and horrible UI of my previous Thomson but this one has been ok so far and is a little easier to navigate around.
I've set mine to bridge mode and am using my exisitng router still as it has better wi-fi performance.

1352450 2013-09-01 23:46:00 I've done a bit more reading on it and I see the modem supplied, is a TG589vn - which makes me think its a Thompson. At present I have TG 585, which works OK, but a bit of a dog to figure out port forwarding initially, but I can do that now. I wonder how possible it is for the TG 589vn?

I wonder what better modems might be available for their ultra vdsl?

Its a technicolour unit and my one works very well so far

1352451 2013-09-02 08:37:00 I have been with Telecom for ten years and except the startup, which at the time they(the call center) did not know our rural area existed, has been very good. The fibre has been laid along the main road 300m away, though our area is not in for an upgrade. Its in the ground for the school only and for them it is to costly.
So all good.:)

1352452 2013-09-10 22:51:00 Urgh, for me its bloody terrible. Too slow. It takes forever to download files, has too much lag in online gaming and the email service keeps getting hacked. I mean you know the isp isn't that good when its whole facebook page is pretty much complaints. Also I get rubbish download speeds from them and upload speeds (1mbps download and 0.5 mbps upload) tuxdude143 (17146)

Sounds like you are either not cabinetised, or you have an issue on your line. Have you got the wiring maintenance contract and, if so, have you tried to get them to resolve your issues?

With those speeds (if the cause of the issue is your internal wiring), it's likely that any ISP you signed up might have the same result.

"you know the isp isn't that good when its whole facebook page is pretty much complaints" - a pretty silly comment. If you were getting good service, why would you go to the Facetwat page to praise them? It wouldn't even cross your mind to do so....

1352454 2013-09-11 00:08:00 I dunno about issues on the line. everyone does use wireless and annoyingly the main family pc uses a wireless card with an outdated wireless interface (wireless g I think) Thats probably slowing us down a bit. My dad is thinking of upgrading to ultra vdsl (he wants to watch the english premier league. Also because I keep running over our data cap. No matter what way you look at it, data caps SUCK) so if he does that will be a bloody godsend. Also one thing that did happen that is rather nice is that bizzarely our telecom online usage meter Isn't tracking data usage. Every month it just says 0mb downloaded 0mb uploaded. I have no idea why its doing that, it just is. tuxdude143 (17146)
1352455 2013-09-11 00:11:00 If you only get 1.5Mbps, and it's not a line issue in your house causing that slow speed, there is no way you'll get VDSL.

Start a new thread about it, and we'll help you figure out whats going on.

If your speed is that bad, there's an underlying issue that would prevent you going to VDSL. So that issue needs to be sorted first.

The zero usage on the usage meter probably means that Telecom thinks you are a TiVo customer (whether you are or not), since all TiVo customers are getting unmetered usage at the moment

1352458 2013-09-11 00:17:00 I dunno, it could be a phone jack in my little bros room that has been taped to the wall. It caused internet outages
Could that be linked to the slowdown?
