1352265 2013-08-28 20:30:00 Oh and also:

Their "exercise" machine. They sell it for a small fortune.
Ezibuy had one too, slight variation on the name, way, way cheaper.

TVShop took them to court to try and stop them selling it. They lost.

They then tried to take Trademe to court to stop them listing used ones. They lost.

They sell more in Australia then NZ. Of course...bigger market. Same place, different 0800...

It's all about sales of crap. And preventing you from returning it.

1352266 2013-08-28 20:44:00 They are located in Lake Rd, Takapuna, near WINZ. Won't help, they won't allow drop offs and in fact swipe card access is needed to get in - to stop customers returning things by hand. pctek (84)
1352267 2013-08-28 22:00:00 Thanks for the responses folks. We're biting the bullet and gonna courier the items back. Dammit. Greg (193)
1352268 2013-08-29 00:09:00 Well heres a contradiction in wording / terms.

terms and conditions.. if I wish to return the item it has to be AS NEW. So a person trials a Vacuum cleaner - hellllloooooo Its gonna get dirty, dust, and marked from sucking up what ever. Impossible to return "as New"

1352269 2013-08-29 00:20:00 Precisely. Thankfully I didn't actually use the thing. Greg (193)

Of course. It's all designed so they get the money off you.
Now you know, only suckers buy from places like that.

And - you think that's bad - you should see the hassle if you need to claim warranty replacement....

1352271 2013-08-29 05:04:00 I went for an interview there......when I found out who they were I hesitated but they said they would report the good, the bad and the ugly so I thought I'd see what they said.
This was for "customer service".

1)They pay well for a call centre. They also have bonuses for preventing people returning things etc....

2)They do NOT want anything back and you must do your damnedest to prevent the customer returning an item.

This includes reducing price first by 25%, then by 50%.
Then, offer another months trial - but don't mention the original terms and conditions still apply.

This is no doubt why they have a comprehensive debt collections department also.

3)The price they charge for whatever is outrageous - your Roomba for instance - did you Google? You can buy the same thing elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.
And often a better quality one. This is why they can offer 50% off and still make enormous profits.

4)They make it hard to return things by insisting on courier, no drop off allowed etc.

5)They insist you ring 0800, they will not discuss the product then but call you back. This is so they can phone spam you in future.
They also take your credit card details immediately at this point.

All these responses are scripted and staff are NOT permitted to deviate from the script and speak like a normal human.
They have supervisors roaming the floor to ensure this is done.

<shudder> I ran away from the horrible place and would never work there, I don't care how much they pay.
Nor would I ever buy something with their methods like that. Well, not that I'd buy some overpriced piece of junk anyway - reviews tell you waht people think of the products....

Ha! I knew those places were full of scumbags.

1352272 2013-08-29 05:31:00 Ha! I knew those places were full of scumbags.

The scumbags all reside in the offices with doors, the guys on the phones are just 'you 'n me' types trying to earn a living.

I avoid telemarketers like the plague myself, but when Mrs T had her severe back pains she was desperate for relief so when
we saw the Dr Ho inflatable belt on the TV Shop ad we bought one there and then.

It worked like a dream, but one day it literally exploded while we were driving home from the airport (may have been something
to do with forgetting to depressurise it fully on an airline flight). I got on the 0800 No. and explained the problem and they
shipped a new one out without waiting for return of the old, then we had another slow leak failure and had to repeat the process,
again with replacement, no questions asked, so I'm supportive of the staff manning the phones, but not of the company principals.

Good news is that since her op, Mrs T has been pain-free for the first time in years but she still uses the belt (uninflated) to
support her back when working outside in the garden or at the end of a long day at work.

Cheers

That's what I meant, mostly. Although I wouldn't want to work somewhere like that and support those kinds of policies. You'd either have to be unethical or desperate I suppose.

Nope, they are nothing like me.

A pitiful wage wouldn't be enough to lower myself to knowingly (and being slightly above stupid I can figure out what a scummy job is) do something so close to shitbag.

Its a rort for all involved, and they all carry the taint no matter what part of the machine they inhabit.
