1371006 2014-03-23 01:56:00 try to make this as cheap as possible, second hand monitors would be nice. maybe a library or school or office could use a few of these. would be cheaper than having 1 computer per person.

feel free to improve the list

Assmann USB A - USB A M-F 2.0 1.8m (USB cable) (pricespy.co.nz)

and a copy of multipoint server 2012 vs 10 sub $500 laptops.

the above build obviously gets cheaper if secondhand monitors are used. less than $3000 is quite likely possible with reused keyboards, mice and webcams.

how would 10 $300 laptops fare against such a beast? R7 240 is no beast but how does it compare standing next to whatever is in a $300-500 laptop?

will vga/dvi extension cables be needed and more usb extenders? how would one best arrange tables? 2 kitchen tables will be enough for 10 people?

tl;dr

IF LOTS OF MINECRAFT IS THE ENDGAME; WHAT IS BEST IDEA?

1371007 2014-03-23 02:26:00 Good luck in finding 10 $300 laptops. Even if theyre 2nd hand, I doubt people would leave a copy of their OS on it. Then what? So all you want them for is minecraft? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1371008 2014-03-23 02:50:00 minecraft, facebook, youtube, office, torrenting, etc

second hand monitors really bring the price down

is 32GB not enough?

its actualy quite expensive moving this idea from lga1150 to lga2011, dual socket and 96GB ram is nice but the larger motherboards only yield 4 additional seats. onboard videos goes, and only 3 additional pcie slots are added.
sure displayport capable video carxds coudl be used but that monitor budget keeps going skyward.

multiple 10seat systems is the best value it seems.

one must also consider the usb port budget. this system has 16 ports which is enough for 14 seats (each with their own HUB) a multifunction printer and a ups

1371011 2014-03-23 05:11:00 I don't know, run Minecraft yourself and then multiply whatever it uses by 10x Agent_24 (57)
1371012 2014-03-23 05:41:00 The motherboard listed the spec's tops out at 32GB of Memory total...

Mine Craft Spec's:

Minimum Requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
RAM: 2GB
GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics or AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon HD Graphics with OpenGL 2.1
GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1
HDD: At least 200MB for Game Core and Other Files
Java 6 Release 45

Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
HDD: 1GB
Latest release of Java 7 from java.com

So going by that if you went by the recommended, 4GB x 10 -- 40GB

Just asked my son who used to hammer Minecraft, his computer has 4GB and says sometimes when "pushing it hard" the memory would appear top out for a short time, but generally ran fine.

Could also depend on how the game is being played, if all 10 were going flat out all at once it would lag/suffer - BUT whats the chance of that ?

You have to remember Multiseat is not designed as a multi game OS, It runs as Virtual Desktops, its more for general day to day work and general usage, good in schools.

1371013 2014-03-23 05:46:00 Why do you want a 10-person Minecraft gaming rig anyway? Agent_24 (57)
1371014 2014-03-23 08:47:00 Wait so im confused, is this a single computer running a minecraft server or 10 separate computers all running minecraft? Slankydudl (16687)
1371015 2014-03-23 09:08:00 No, a single machine running Multipoint Server - think more like 10 virtual machines on the same PC, but with separate keyboards, mice, monitors... Agent_24 (57)
