2014-03-19 22:48:00 | Hi, I have set up Netflix on our PC, using MediaHint (a Chrome extension) to mask our DNS address . I am investigating options to get Netflix on our TV in the lounge (PC is in the office at the opposite end of the house) - and I have been told about Chromecast . Will Chromecast be able to access Netflix, using my PC's Chrome (and subsequently MediaHint), or does it have its own DNS addresses? Will Chromecast require my PC to be on, and Chrome open & running? Will I need to use my PC's keyboard/mouse to navigate Chromecast? I understand Chromecast was designed with people using their laptop/tablet in mind (as in, the source device being in the same room?) . Or - seeing I have an Xbox360 connected to the TV, would it be far much easier for me to set this up by looking at subscribing to something like UnoTelly to mask my DNS on the router, which would make Netflix via Xbox work? How have other people here successfully set up Netflix to run on their TVs? Thanks for your help!

2014-03-19 23:00:00 | If I wanted to watch Netflix, I would use the netbook here. Since its got HDMI. So has the TV. Install Mediahint. Thats it. I would leave it connected. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2014-03-19 23:11:00 | One of the problems with Chromecast is that it has hard wired Google DNS addresses. I suspect Mediahint may not work. Speedy suggestion is a good one if you can afford a cheap netbook.. | paulw (1826) | |

Trying to stay away from purchasing anything more lol - seeing as we have an Xbox already. Friends have set theirs up via PS3 and it works beautifully. One of the problems with Chromecast is that it has hard wired Google DNS addresses. I suspect Mediahint may not work. Speedy suggestion is a good one if you can afford a cheap netbook.. Thanks - that's what I suspect too (re MediaHint). |

2014-03-24 04:34:00 | nope - netflix doesn't play on chromecast You mean specifically in NZ? Looks like my only options are to get UnoTelly set up again (I trialled it before), to play it on the Xbox/TV, or buy a netbook (which I want to avoid)....?
