1352238 2013-08-27 23:23:00 Has anyone had any success with this app.

I installed it on a smartphone but it says it requires Macromedia flash.

Have located the sugested flash apk but it won't install.
Comes up with Parse error.

1352239 2013-08-27 23:49:00 If its got a parse error it didn't download the APK correctly. Delete the file then try again :)
Keep in mind it's not an official TVNZ OnDemand app either...

1352240 2013-08-27 23:59:00 That could be the problem.
I couldn't find suggested app on Play Store so couldn't install directly to the device.
I downloaded it to PC & transferred it via usb.
The suggested app

"instal_flash_player_ics.apk"

1352241 2013-08-28 00:34:00 Yeah you'll need to tap and hold on the text, highlight the whole URL, then copy it.

Fire up Chrome on your phone, paste that in, and it'll download it :)

1352242 2013-08-28 00:41:00 To get TVNZ on demand working on my nexus I side loaded the flash player and installed firefox and just use that - works ok.
Chrome is the default browser on it and they've dropped flash support. Time websites started moving away from flash I think, seems more people abandon it every week.

1352243 2013-08-28 01:53:00 I presume you're talking about a different app than the official TVNZ OnDemand app, as that doesn't require flash. Presumably the one you're trying gives more channels etc? TVNZ OnDemand works well imo. inphinity (7274)

You aren't expecting media companies to move with the times are you? That would create a precedent of unprecedented proportions!!!

I think TVNZ think they have it nailed now, because they've produced their app for Android, months after their iOS app.

They obviously don't consider market penetration of the OS as the driver to create apps, more the likelihood that an iOS user, having spent FAR too much money buying what is arguably an inferior product, is obviously a sucker to spend yet more money with them (or their advertisers)....

There seem to be a large number of companies who don't realise that Android has greater market penetration than iOS (especially amongst geeks with spending power)...

(NOTE: I recently had to buy a new iPhone 5 for SWMBO because her 3GS bricked for the very last time. I tried converting her to Android with an S3 I had available (temporarily), but she was anti. She's not technical and doesn't use the (or any) smartphone to it's fullest potential and doesn't like change. So I'm more than a little grumpy that I had to spend $500 more than I needed to - she could have had a new Nexus 4 for around $600!! Or the repaired S3 for around $300!)

Side note, the Nexus 4 has just had a US$100 price drop, so hopefully we'll see the lower pricing reflected here soon, too...
