275088 2004-09-24 04:37:00 I am thinking about selling a couple of peices of hardware no longer required:

Gainward Ti4600 128MB Golden Sample AGP4X (runs 317/702 stable)

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Thoroughbred (runs 2600+ (FSB 166MHz/1.82GHz) std volts stable)

Any idea on second hand prices?

275089 2004-09-24 04:42:00 First off,i wouldnt make any mention or prior overclocking or overclocking abilites when it comes to selling used hardware,No matter how stable they may be its still running the gear faster then its designed for and devalues it.

Cpu is worth 50 or 60 i suppose,Video....probally $145 to 165 ,Although you will probally get more then what its worth.

275090 2004-09-24 04:45:00 The Ti4600 is probably worth $100-$150, it doesnt matter what it can overclock like its still old technology. its probably a good idea to keep the fact that its overclock quiet as it may put some people off.

the 2000+ is probably worth no more than $80, id definatly be keeping that overclock quiet as its not overly impressive and will once again put off buyers who fair OC'n as the dark art.

Stick em on trade me and you'll probably get more than that, you could also try advertising them on the GPForums buy and sell area. Like trade me GP is full of tards who buy stupid prices for old hardware.

Unless hes been pulling off some crazy volt mods then the overclocking wont have any affect real affect on the hardware. e.g the CPU was overclocked only using stock voltage this would have no effect at all. People hear the words overclocking and imediatly assume it was done by crazy geeks with thick rimmed glasses using N02, which isnt the case.

275095 2004-09-24 06:45:00 I'm well aware of the effects o/c can have on different CPU's & I wasn't offering an opinion either way.
Interesting to see though that you're certain he hasn't pushed it further than recommended

My comment was aimed more at a buyers point of view, having the right to know what he is buying.
It's up to a seller whether he is up front or not. that's his business.
My beef is advocating a shade of grey in a forum such as this

275096 2004-09-24 06:50:00 Yeah I learnt a lesson from voltage overclocking when I fried an 1800+ Palamino. :D

I just stick to standard voltage settings now and play with multiplier, fsb and/or timing settings.

But you should also be aware of such things when buying second hand. If the person is smart enough to find the trade me website then they are smart enough to find a how-to on overclocking. Im not saying that all trade me sellers are overclockers but id expect a fair few are. Whether or not the person states its been overclocked one should consider the peice of hardware being brought. CPU's such as the 2000+ above are known to be good overclockers and were popular with those who overclock. Compared to say a Athlon 3200+ the 2000+ would have a much great chance of being some overclockers hand me down. Its like buying a second hand WRX compared to buying a 1.3lt Toyota, theres a greater chance that the WRX has been thrashed and the gearbox is about to fall out. We all know that if you shop around you could find a healthy WRX you just have to look a lil harder, the same applies to PC hardware.

The buyer should also be taking some responsibility, trade me is full or *******s who'll sell you crap, the buyers need to wake up and stop being guliable. Asking questions before you buy and if possible seeing it in action first help eliminate the threats of lemons.
