274810 2004-09-23 04:32:00 Hi,

I have a new Thinkpad R51 and wanted to use the 'IBM Update Connector' facility to check if my system software was up todate ... however upon use it just 'hung' and did nothing.

I have downloaded the latest version but it is telling me to uninstall the old version using the add/remove feature. This gets half way thru and then I get an error msg: Error 1306 Another application has exclusive access to the file c:\programmefiles\IBM\updater\log.txt Please shut down all the other apps and retry ---

However I dont appear to my untrained eye have anything else running. IBM support were not much help and I tried re-booting in Safe mode to uninstall but the 'Installer' is not available in safe mode so no good there.

Does anyone have any suggestions, i am running Windows XP pro and service pack 2

- tks George

274812 2004-09-26 22:26:00 I have managed to install the latest version however upon starting the programme and accepting the liscence the programme just hangs at the 'opening'. When I go to 'Task manager' to close it down it does not show as running even tho it is sitting on my screen and I have to log off to close it?? GeorgeD (5913)

274814 2004-09-27 05:33:00 George - I have an X40 (used to have an R32) and have never used update connector. I've never trusted what it told me. I prefer to use the Thinkpad software/device driver matrix (www.pc.ibm.com)

Also, a good thinkpad forum: forum.thinkpads.com

Cheers
