275163 2004-09-26 09:28:00 Leave poor Helen alone !! Mrs Misty and I once went to the movies in Takapuna and sat in seats directly in front of Helen and Mr Clark. And that was in an ordinary showing. How many countries in the world could that happen ????????

See her ratings in the best prime minister stakes have risen again. Seems most people are happy with her !

No offence guys, because I know you feel strongly about this, but Telecom will never listen to any of these arguments while you are using words like telescum & swine etc .

Until you express yourself in a logical and coherent manner, outlining your grievances and suggesting practical solutions they will simply ignore you . Cyberspace is full of people frothing at the mouth (present company excepted) especially in the US and nobody in power gives a toss . They just mark the worst examples down as potential suspects to be called on first if something nasty happens .

The way to influence them is via their bottom line, and that takes a concerted campaign involving the willing support of a lot of very moderate people . The type who are put off by rabid mouthings, however sincere they might be . If you want to engineer change you have to work for it, and be credible .

That's just my opinion of course, but history shows that organised campaigns win out over disorganised mobs every time .

Think about how you might build a genuine challenge that would make them sit up and listen . You have the full power of the Web at your disposal (albeit bandwidth limited or data capped according to the flavour you chose) . So go for it, but use a spell checker and stay away from the Caps Lock key .

275165 2004-09-26 12:49:00 Just keep digging at Telecom - I'm sure they'll care.

Being a Telecom fan through and through, I think that we should count our blessings. I have been utilising the fact that they can't limit my speed (or 'shape' it) once I pass the limit to my advantage - and now that these new plans come out most of us still complain.

I for one am glad - and I don't care about ports, there's always redirection...

Happy happy happy happy happy happy happy joy!!!

275166 2004-09-26 13:16:00 I would like to see a 3 or 5 gig plan with the 2mbit/s speed. I dont use much, but I always go over my 1gb cap, and I think all the 256k ones are too slow. mejobloggs (264)

Don't mistake reaction for caring Growly, post something defamatory and you will get a reaction all right, but abuse is just ho-hum, it hardly intrudes above the clink of the dollars rolling in. When you are coining it with a monopoly service abuse is just background noise.

You have to affect their cashflow to be heard. Do you really think Telecom wastes time surfing forums to find out what users think?

Try influencing politicians instead, if you made electronic communication services a key election issue you see some movement, but I'm not exactly sure in which direction.

Errr... IIRC in 2003 they had a Net Profit of 14.8 Billion $NZD.

Personally that Plus plan looks a lot better - I'll just have to dig up the IP's of those two NZ-Based Proxy servers I found..... :-/

275169 2004-09-27 00:22:00 Billy,

Your comments on "Scum, Swine" and other abusive terms are very valid.

Negative language does have its place "TeleScam and Telecon" send a message.

The sexual deviates stole "Hero" very effectivley.

Scam and Con are both Effective negative motivators.

Organized/disorganized Writing on walls, has allways been the first step in any revolution.

275170 2004-09-27 01:14:00 Telecom is so against serving of any type, that's what annoys me. 128 and 192k upload speeds?

The Telstra 2mbit service ($1/mo more expensive) offers 5GB (I average 4), and 512K upload speeds w/static IP.

I serve two websites over my Orcon connection w/static IP, but really do need better upload speeds.

If I switch to a faster plan it'll be Telstra. And telecom's bottom line will suffer. Excellent. Then they might make 4Mbit/1Mbit plans or something and I'll switch back.

Ps. I don't honestly think I will make a difference but why not all switch to Telstra? If only they had a 3GB/1Mbit plan for the (many) people out there that only use 1 or 2 gigs and don't want to pay for 5.
