274907 2004-09-24 03:04:00 Mine is an Eagle brand, bought from QMB.

I was going to buy some other brand but was told the the Eagle was "slightly faster"

274908 2004-09-24 03:09:00 who told you that?,i suggest you never ever listen to them ever again.

The Eagle is the lowest quality g4ti ever made, and many of them have failed from heat related issues.

QMB are the dodgyist computer shop in Auckland, your a mug for walking in the door in the first place. They are rippoff artists and con men. Do yourself a favour and never ever ever go anywhere near QMB again.

Now knowing that you have an eagle you may want to consider a 3rd party cooler to replace the crappy stock cooler, at the very least rip the cooler off and replace the thermal paste.

Attaching a thermal probe underneath the HSF isnt exactly the most accurate way of measuring a temp but i guess it does atleast give you a ball park figure.

**me sits and hides and waits for Chilling to jump out and defend QMB

Engineering Release - Not For Production Use

274912 2004-09-24 03:25:00 Infact, now that I think about it:
Items I have bought from QMB:

GF4 Ti4200 - Problems as described in this post
Volcano 9 cooler - Busted my Duron 1300 while transporting computer.
NetScroll USB Mouse - Broke within 2 days while playing age of empires
Replacement Mouse - Broke within 1 hour.

I'm never buying anything from them again.
agent_24 (4330)
274913 2004-09-24 03:38:00 I wouldnt blame the Volcanoe on QMB, they're notorious for breaking motherboards. Most people just think "Wow its really big it must cool well", what they need to know is that the AMD ZIFF socket will hold a maximum of 300g. But in saying that a retailer with a conscience would have pointed that out and helped the customer buy a cooler that suited their needs.

It is possible to just get a dud product it doesnt mean the brand is crap, i had a Microsoft mouse break after 2 hours on me once took it back to the shop and the replacements been going strong for over a year now. But if both mouses were NetScroll then i think it would be safe to assume its a crap brand. Just goes to show you get what you pay for.

274914 2004-09-24 03:49:00 yea, I suppose the Volcano isnt their fault, but as for the mice, that was just pathetic.

Bought those mice a while ago - they were the last I bought off QMB, and since then have bought all my computer parts from either Trademe, or SuperCheap Computers.

haven't had problems from supercheap, and hardly any from trademe.

Next item on shopping list: New Video Card
Next Listing on trademe: GeForce 4 Ti4200

LOL :D

274915 2004-09-24 04:25:00 There's nothing wrong with QMB .

If you don't do any research on the product you are buying you are asking for trouble at any store unless you know the people you are dealing with personally (not through a friend of a friend)!

It's all about the bottom line unfortunately with any business .

Yes......and......no.

You have to make money on any transaction, thats a given, But i personally would recomend a better brand with less markup over something thats just rubbish with a bigger cut.

The Eagle brand is where i draw the line.
